The work in this portfolio marks my gradual return to painting after many years in the darkroom creating luminographs. The lessons learned there of light and color are apparent in the images included here. Similarly, these pictures have been created in layers of transparency, piling up information to create a synthetic expression.
More specifically, these recent paintings reference the concept of our origin, and the notion of the garden as our beginning as a species; they exemplify life and loss, change and creativity, inspiration and dreams. The series is entitled Querencia which translates as a place of safety and longing, the locus of no harm. Literally the spot in the bullring where the toro feels unthreatened, Querencia introduces spaces that transform the viewer, by enrichment, and by engagement.
